Euratom Cricket Club

Club News

Euratom Cricket Club is one of the oldest & best known cricket clubs in Italy. In its thirty years of existence it has won many Senior & Junior National Championships, frequently supplying players for the Italian National squads at every age-group. The club has gained an unmatched reputation for hospitality and over the years has entertained touring teams from all over the cricketing world.

The club is based on the European Commission Joint Research Centre in the little Italian village of Ispra, not far from Lake Maggiore. The players come from both the Research Centre itself & from firms in the surrounding area, making up a friendly multi-ethnic mix which is quite unusual in Italian cricket. The European School associated with the Research Centre is situated in Varese & its students make up the majority of the players in Euratom's Under 13 & Under 15 teams. Junior players over 16 tend to play mostly in the club's First XI. Some of the club's older members have also joined forces recently with players from other local clubs to play occasionally as a Veteran's team known as I Protesi.

E.C.C.'s  Lombardy League fixtures & other home games are played at the Italtel Cricket Ground in Settimo Milanese, just off Milan's Tangenziale Ovest ring road. The I.C.G. ground has a decent artificial wicket & the sports complex has changing rooms & showers, a bar & a restaurant. Settimo Milanese is easily reached by road or train & is only about half-an-hour from Milan's main airports, Malpensa & Linate. The Ryanair  hub at Orio al Serio near Bergamo is just under an hour away by road or by shuttle bus to Milano Centrale station.

Euratom First XI nets are held every Sunday afternoon from 16:00 to 18:00 in the J.R.C. Sportshall in Ispra. Junior nets are held there on Wednesday afternoons from 14:30 to 16:30. Kwik-Cricket sessions should also be re-starting soon at the European School.

New players of all ages & ability are always welcome at Euratom. If you think you might be interested in playing, or have a team which might be interested in visiting Ispra please contact Dai Berry at +39 338 7349600 or david.berry@ec.europa.eu
