9th  March 2011

  Dear Euratom Cricketers,

First XI nets have been running for over a month now in the JRC Sportshall every Sunday afternoon from 16:00 to 18:00. Use of the excellent facilities at the Italtel Cricket Ground in Settimo Milanese has also been reconfirmed for 2011 &, despite some chilly weather, the new season is nearly upon us.

So it's time to check how much those flannels have shrunk over the winter & to consult the Fixture List which will be regularly updated on this website. The Lombardy League has expanded this year to eight teams which will be divided into two preliminary pools, with the result that we may not immediately meet some of our traditional local opponents such as Milan & Idle.  Depending on the league results, these games will be added if necessary as friendlies at a suitable juncture. Note that not only will we be travelling to Geneva again to play CERN C.C. on Sunday 19th June but also that the return game will be at the I.C.G. Settimo Milanese on Sunday 21st August. The Lombardy League Twenty20 competition will be held at the I.C.G. & The Radish ( Lodi ) over two consecutive W/Es in July.

Please let me know if you know of any other clubs from Italy or abroad who might be interested in a game.

As far as the Junior section is concerned, nets should restart on Wednesday afternoons at the JRC Sportshall in the near future.  Currently we would seem to have relatively few Under 13s & it has not been possible to enter a team in the National Championships. Those Under 15s, on the other hand, who are keen to play some competitive cricket, will join forces with the players from the Kingsgrove club to take part in the new 11-a-side championship.  The Euratom Under 13 & Under 15 combined squad will travel twice to Geneva, once to play as usual against Geneva Region Youth Cricket & once to play the newly-formed Gingin Cricket Club. Then in November they will take part again in the Zurich International School indoor tournament. The Under 17s & Under 19s, apart from playing in the Italian championship with Kingsgrove, will also be welcome to gain experience in the Euratom First XI.

The immediate objective for 2011 is to develop an enlarged junior Milan area squad involving players from the European School Varese & the Sir James Henderson & International Schools in Milan with a view to hosting some visiting junior teams at the I.C.G. .

I look forward to seeing you all again soon at the start of what I hope will be another very successful season,

                                        Yours Sincerely,

                                           Dai Berry
